Lattes and Linkups: Tiffany Wynn

I had the pleasure of meeting Tiffany Wynn my senior year when I served as Miss Prairie View A&M University. As a former Miss Prairie View, Tiffany was naturally poised, composed and confident. These traits combined with her cheerful spirit (she was a collegiate cheerleader) allowed her to reign in the realms of fashion, teaching and coaching!

Today she focuses primarily on personal training and has created an exclusive program designed to help mommas bounce back after having their babies. She wants to change the stigma that being a mom means your life is over, and is all about motivating her clients as they crush their goals.

As a momepreneur (mom + entrepreneur), she has the greatest privilege of staying at home with her sweet baby Savannah while she runs her business. She is what we like to call #Goals. I could not think of a better person to sit down with and get her take on the Five Excuses You Need to Drop in Order to Be Great!

Tiffany Writes…

I could probably write a novel on this topic but for the sake of getting this done during naptime, I’ll be brief. My actual title is “Personal Trainer” but I like to think of myself as more of a Life Coach. I’m not just training people for physical fitness and health, but I’m also passionate about helping people live their best lives all around. Since I’m constantly interacting with people that feel “stuck”, I hear tons of excuses on a daily basis. Here are my Top 5 that you have to ditch if you want to start living your dream life.

“I’m too _____ or not enough ____”

“I’m too young to buy a house. I’m not skinny enough to be a personal trainer. I’m too broke to start a business. There’s already so many other cheer gyms in this area. Other trainers are way better than I am.”

These are all thoughts that have passed through my mind at some point. Key words: passed through. I acknowledge that those feelings of inferiority and insecurity are just that…feelings. They are not my truth and I don’t hold on to them. There is no scarcity of success and it’s not limited to a specific kind of person. It’s out there for the taking for any and every one.

“I’m not ready OR now is not the right time”

I mean, are we ever REALLY ready for anything in life?! I promise you, whether it’s your career or getting married or having a baby or anything else with uncertainty in life, you will never truly feel ready. Doing something new is risky and uncomfortable, but the people who win in life do it anyway. Just like a baby bird, jump and you’ll learn to fly on the way down.

“I don’t have the experience or knowledge”

Last time I checked, experience came by DOING, so how will you get the experience if you don’t just start doing the thing? Just think about it, people like Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé were once inexperienced. Imagine if they let that stop them from starting. And what’s interesting about this excuse is that no matter how much experience and knowledge you have or gain over time, it never feels like it’s enough. I can guarantee you that some of the most successful people you know feel as if they’d be more successful if they just had more experience or knew more information.

“I don’t have the motivation”

I’m going to say something a little unorthodox here, but just hear me out…motivation is a myth. There is no such thing as motivation. If successful people relied on motivation to do things, well, we would all probably still be riding horses and you would be reading this post by candlelight on the carving of a wood chip. Motivation is fleeting and can change in an instant. Instead, rely on INSPIRATION. Sometimes I may not be motivated to get up and workout because my baby kept me up all night but you better believe I’m inspired to, and my “why” reminds me of that.

“I don’t have time”

I think the real phrase for this one should be “It’s just not that important to me.” Its so cliche but you will make time for the things that are important to you. If you get free tickets to your favorite singer’s concert or sport team’s game, you move things around and make arrangements to go. If your kid gets sick, you make the time to take them to the doctor. If you know there’s something you can be doing to get you closer to the life of your dreams, but you’re “too busy” to do it, let’s face it, you really just don’t want it badly enough.
