In the spirit of brand expansion and personal growth, I had been avidly visiting sites of bloggers that I typically wouldn’t. I was nothing short of amazed by the content and quality these influencers are feeding into the universe. The level of detail, accuracy and overall completeness of these brands was admirable.
Naturally, I began to analyze my own blog and soon found myself critiquing the tiniest details. I became obsessed with reading other bloggers’ content and feeling the rush of disappointment sweep over me as I reflected on my own. It was sweet torture.
This went on for about 2 weeks before I decided that something needed to change, and that something was I. I declined the invite for the next pity party and got to work. I shot several outfits that weekend and began cranking out content from my laptop. I was back and it felt unbelievably great.
I realize that I was upset, because I didn’t want to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve the goals that I had set out. Now that I think about it, I was being downright lazy. Rather than doing something about my social discomfort, I wallowed in misery and deflected my self-dissatisfaction onto individuals that were walking in their purpose.
“Hard Work Beats Talent, When Talent Doesn’t Work Hard”
How often do you find yourself comparing your progress to others, without putting in the work to change it? If frequently, then like me, you need to switch up the game plan. You will never gain muscles by watching someone lift in the gym, and just the same, you will never become successful by looking at someone else grind.
If you never take anything else away from me, remember this. No one achieves success by sitting on their couch and scrolling through Instagram. Heck, even Instagram models have to shoot, edit, and post their photographs on a consistent basis to remain relevant. Regardless of the goal, consistency, hard work and dedication will always be required. It is up to you to make it happen!
